Companies with a 4-day work week that are hiring right now


The four-day work week is having a moment.

Several recent studies, including one that followed nearly 3,000 workers in the UK, found that when companies moved to a four-day working week, workers’ productivity, health, relationships and even finances fell. were improving. California Rep. Mark Takano also recently reintroduced the 32-Hour Workweek Act in Congress, which would change the definition of a workweek from its current 40 hours if passed.

“While the concept of a four-day work week isn’t entirely new, it’s undeniable that there’s been tremendous momentum and interest in this model,” says Doug Ebertowski, career expert at FlexJobs. The idea is gaining momentum, he says, and “this, coupled with the fact that employers have become much more creative in their approach to attracting great workers, could mean we could see the four-day work week here for stay”.

Whatever the future for the trend to become a standard, some companies are implementing it as their go-to schedule right now. FlexJobs, which focuses on remote and flexible roles, has identified a number of companies that have adopted or are considering adopting a shorter workweek. And they are hiring. Here are 11 of those companies, including some of their open roles.

As for the trends on the list, “it’s mostly about nonprofits and tech companies,” says Yolanda Owens, career expert at The muse. With the exception of Panasonic, these are also smaller companies, “mostly under 1,000 employees,” she says.

“With smaller organizations, adopting a four-day work week makes sense because it’s easier to set parameters around that,” she says. “I think it would be a little harder for larger organizations to do that just because of the scope and scale.” The logistics of arranging that kind of flexibility for people in an array of roles could be difficult, she says.

“I don’t think you’ll see an Amazon adopting this anytime soon.”
